MISSION

advocacy + education = eradication

Our mission is simple, we are committed to the eradication of breast cancer through advocacy and education. Please do listen to our video above. Fran Visco, NBCC President, is an empowering speaker and she highlights our mission and our accomplishments better that we can put into words!

Our accomplishments are:

  • Encouraging peer and advocate reviewed scientific research.
  • Providing advocate training and community education.
  • Promoting access to quality health care for all.

HISTORY

SLBCC raises funds in a variety of ways:
  1. Membership dues are $30.00 annually. (Membership Form)
  2. Tributes are contributions to SLBCC in memory of or to honor individuals, to send wishes for good health, to commemorate births, birthdays, anniversaries--or other special occasions. (Tribute Form)
  3. Donations are gifts given by groups and members of the community to support the mission of the SLBCC.
  4. Annual Special Event.
HOW TO HELP

Following the precedent of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), a grassroots advocacy organization which was founded in 1991 in Washington, DC, a small group of survivors and activists in Missouri formed the St. Louis Breast Cancer Coalition (SLBCC) in 1992.

Over the years SLBCC members have traveled to Washington numerous times to participate in NBCC events, gaining knowledge and insight. These events have included Annual Conferences, training weekends, Lobby Days on Capitol Hill, and events at the White House. Here in St. Louis, SLBCC has sponsored many educational events as well as the occasional fundraiser. Our members have staffed SLBCC information tables at many other local community events, and  have traveled to Missouri's State Capitol to sit on statewide advisory boards or take part in a Lobby Day.

It has been a busy 20+ years for SLBCC, maintaining our focus on breast cancer issues and educating the community, as well as working toward substantial funding for well-designed breast cancer research and quality health care for all. SLBCC is governed by a dedicated board of directors. SLBCC is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization.
